Public Building (Library)
The main concept that has guided the design of the building was to emphasize the importance of raising the culture, represented by the large reading rooms of the library, not only metaphorically, placing it as the centerpiece of the complex due to dimension and freedom of the interior spaces, but also phisically, making these spaces risen up by three elements in which are articulated the vertical connections and ancillary functions (bar, administration offices, study rooms, multipurpose rooms, auditorium).
The lifting of this basic element, generate below it a large covered public space, and the three “feet” that connects it to the ground guarantee the autonomy of functions and pathways.
On the groundfloor, in correspondence with the covered plaza there are the main public functions, so the bar-cafeteria, the entrance to the library and the auditorium.
The two floors above host the same functios dividing them one per each “foot”, in fact there are the administration office in one volume, the study room in an other, and in the last one there are two partitionable rooms that can be used for different purposes.
The fourth and the fifth floors have completely different shape, dimension and uses, hosting the main library.
The fourth floor is characterized by lower shelves that have very various shape, while the fifth floor, shows more rigid character with long and high shelves; between them, at time, there are large tables for reading that define new spaces.
